Farrer Ball - Thursday 8th September 2011
A bunch of people from my hall got all cleaned up and dressed up to have a dance. It was pretty much just like a high school dance. We had a delicious dinner, and plenty of dancing, overall a fun night just hanging with people from my floor and a few guys I play soccer with. And it was nice to see everyone all dressed up (so many pretty dresses!). Oh and it was a masquerade ball, so of course I had a cute mask to wear!
A Night at the Casino - Saturday 10th September 2011
Went out to the The Crown Casino to go dancing at a placed called 'Fusion' with some guys I play soccer with to celebrate the birthday of one of their cousins. It was fun, got to meet some new people, and dance to the crazy dub-step music that Melbourne is famous for (not sure if I'm a huge fan, but if you want to check out the 'Melbourne Shuffle' - try this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPaMdxC6CQI). I did not dance like that, but a couple of my friends are decent at it I suppose. For once though, I was having fun dancing around - not quite so awkward, but perhaps that was because the music was also awkward. After dancing we watched some people play texas hold'em, which was interesting, but not all that exciting, pretty much just like watching it on T.V. but you don't know what the people have in their hands, so mostly you just try to figure out if they are bluffing.
A Evening in the City with 2nd Lords - Friday 16th September 2011
A group of people that live in my hall and specifically on my floor (the 2nd floor of the 'Farrer Lords' building) went out dancing at a place called 'Imperial' on Chapel Street in St. Kilda. It was fun to hang out with them, as I spent most of the week locked in my room writing essays. It was also fun to play dress up again. A friend on my floor, Joni (who is also American - from Hawaii) lent me a really cute dress that actually fit perfectly! Oh and another girl lent me a jacket, so I was mostly wearing other people's clothes, but don't worry I still looked good (see below!)!

On Saturday I celebrated Andy's birthday (he's one of the guys who plays soccer with me) with a bunch of other guys I play soccer with (Mauritians) and the girls they hang out with/date. It was pretty fun, I got to eat some 'traditional' Mauritian food - it was rice with chunks of chicken/beef and potato, with chopped up tomatoes that reminded me of mild salsa. It was pretty good, but defintely not what I thought a traditional meal would be. We also had cake from a store, that was pretty good, although it had no cultural signifcance. We also played a game called 'Singstar' which is a singing competition videogame. It was pretty fun, although I'm pretty sure that my singing is only just a little better than completely terrible. Oh well, at least I can play soccer well, right?
Penguins & Dinner in St. Kilda - Friday 23rd September 2011
After a long week of essay writing and other not-fun things, my friend Hesmond and I took a trip to St. Kilda (a suburb just outside of the Melbourne city center) to see penguins that come into the rocks to sleep each night. They were super cute and tiny but I didn't get any good pictures of them, but I did get a couple decent shots of the sunset. Afterwards Hesmond and I met our friend Ida at her apartment in St. Kilda. Her place is really nice, she shares it with her boyfriend and another guy who is a chef/baker. Her boyfriend, Carl made us dinner which was rice with chicken and vegetables in a pineapple sauce I think. It was actually super good, and amazing to have a nice home cooked meal that actually tasted good. The only problem is the long trip back to Clayton from St. Kilda. It took me almost 2 hours to get back and got stuck on a train after a footy match so it was packed with many match-goers.
